Gospel Reflection for the Feast of Jesus Baptism C2013

Feast of Jesus’ Baptism (Lk 3.15-16, 21-22)

“Heaven was opened, the Holy Spirit descended…, a voice came from heaven…”  They all happened when Jesus was baptized by John in the river Jordan.

Jesus’ baptism ushered in the long awaited messianic age which is the time of fulfilment in process until the mandate to ‘go and baptize all nations’ is fulfilled.  We are in a privilege time where Heaven remains open, the Holy Spirit dwells in the hearts of those baptized in Christ, and the Father voicing out with pride that we are His beloved children.

What took place in Jesus’ baptism remains taking place in our days.  His baptism brings down what is inaccessible to people.  Eternity comes in time, heaven comes on earth, heavenly voice comes in flesh and made incarnate.  All in Jesus.

Being baptized in the Lord, we become all in Him, through Him and with Him.  May we live in time the spirit of Him in whom we were baptized for eternity.  Amen.
