Gospel Reflection for the 7th Sunday OT 2012

“…it became known that He was at home. (Mk. 2.1b)

Because of the rejection showed by His own people in Nazareth, Jesus moved to Capernaum and made it as His own home.  It became the centre for His Messianic mission: summoning His first disciples, the Gospel being proclaimed, people afflicted with various illnesses and bound by evil spirits were healed.

Capernaum became a place wherein the vulnerable biblical people feel very much at home.  Home is the place where anyone should feel safe and secured, loved and respected, healed and strengthened.  Home is a place where family members long to be, long to live and stay, long to take rest and be refreshed, long to be understood and forgiven.

Capernaum has been made a home for everyone only and always by the presence of Jesus.  Jesus is what defines a home in the life of each family.  When a family member or members are not drawn anymore to come home, we know what or who is missing, Jesus.

May we all come home and there stay not only to find Jesus in each other but to bring Him home as well so that everyone may find joy, peace and healing in Him.  Amen.
