(Good Shepherd Sunday)

Social environment is getting seriously hostile to religious and priestly vocations.  Secular world has developed, introduced and made prevailed a culture which subtly and effectively, though superficially, takes away God from reality.  This self-inflict religious paralysis, in all its artificiality, would surely end up destroying itself but without a substantial collateral damage on the part of those religiously practicing the faith.

Using the guise of gentleness of the culture, the Godlessness of secularism penetrates the innocence and vulnerability of Christian families without recognizing its destructive malice and scheme.  It is not that religious and priestly vocations have lost its meaning and strength that young people drop their measuring stick to consider it in the least.  Religious and priestly life remains an inwardly fulfilling commitment and its unseen benefits stay beyond the scope of reason and explanation.

Fear of responsibility and the strategy of confusion are the unfortunate factors that reduce countless families into innocent victims of secularism. There is no such thing as fulfilled easy life.  And there is no such thing as miserable God-centred life.  Aiming together, aiming seriously at noble focus of life can help restore the healthy family sense for God.  And then, interest for sacred vocations will regain its momentum in the lives of our young people.

May each Christian family live a life of prayer that cultivates in the hearts of the children the seed for priestly and religious life.  May Christ the Good Shepherd be welcomed to the fold of Christian household.  Amen.
