(Jn 6.24-35)

“I am the Bread of life,” (Jn 6.35).

This is a typical Johannine revelation of God in Jesus.  I AM is God in His divinity revealed in Jesus whose real presence is perpetuated by what the Bread is; given to give life.

To take Jesus in faith as the Bread of life is God’s work that works in one’s life.  As Jesus does the work of the Father of not letting anything, anyone to perish but to have eternal life by having faith in Him, He reduces Himself to being bread that nourishes.

By being so common, the bread fulfils what the faith calls for.  The bread, in all its accidentals, sharpens the faith in confidence, to understand that what lies beneath the appearance is the One that comes down from heaven whose presence on earth is destined to satiate human hunger and quench the thirst of soul.

May our communion with Jesus in faith be our daily bread that sustains and helps us endure for eternal life.  Amen.
