Gospel Reflection for Pentecost Sunday B2012

posted May 27, 2012, 3:42 AM by Alberto dela Cruz

The disciples, on the first Christian Pentecost, were given the gifts of discernment and right judgment specifically on dealing with people’s moral life:  “Receive the Holy Spirit.  Whose sins you forgive are forgiven, whose sins you retain are retained,” (Jn 20.22b-23).

Made fearless and peaceful by the Risen Lord’s appearance in His wounded but glorious body, the disciples outburst in rejoicing and received the mandate to re-establish the moral foundation of people’s lives.  They were sent as peacemakers.

It seems that Jesus is giving the summation of Divine plan for the entire world, for the whole humanity.  That what the Spirit would lead the disciples to fulfil as the final exhortation of the Lord is the radical moral realignment.  Sound and gentle guidance towards moral recovery is the final layer on the path of human struggle for genuine peaceful life

Jesus completes his mission in the world by entrusting to the Church His own Spirit to seek and assist in restoring the strong moral filament of human society.

Come and be part of that noble restoration, to usher in the peace of Christ in the lives of all.  Amen.
