Gospel Reflection for Epiphany Sunday C2013

(Feast of Epiphany – Mt 2.1-12)

God’s face had been made splendidly visible when He created man and woman in His own image and likeness.  Deviation brought about by sin distorted the divine image in every human person.  The shining splendour of God’s image ceased to shed its light.  Creation has been shrouded in darkness.

When the divinely set appointed time has come, Jesus, the Anointed One, has come to rekindle the light of God’s face shining in all human realities.  The unmade God made true man in Jesus went through the extreme human hardship and pains and even death in order to restore the lost original divine image and likeness in the human soul.

Jesus makes us the rekindled image of the unseen God.  He reshapes our lives as the rekindled likeness of God’s face in the world today.  In Him, we are made the shining revelation of God’s loving presence and blessing for all.

Epiphany is the day that intends to keep us in the awareness of God’s ceaseless unfolding of Himself in our midst as the shining splendour of love and service.  May we be the shining witnesses of this divine presence at all times and places.  Amen.
