Gospel Reflection for 3rd Sunday of Advent C2012

(Lk 3.10-18)

Water baptism of John cleanses, purifies because it is empowered to be such by the Word who is Jesus.  No matter how strong the break-water is, repentance can make it completely broken so that refreshing water could freely flow in and achieve its end.

Jesus’ baptism with Holy Spirit and fire is a gentle pouring out of divine power into the baptized soul making it fully and ever equipped with inexhaustible inertia which drives it on in creative and persistent exploration of the newness of creation.

The water that cleanses, the fire that drives the soul on are gifts of creation indicating that the course of nature is heading towards the definitive unfolding of the infinite stages of newness.  Whether we know it or not, whether we care or not, that’s what we truly have by virtue of our Baptism.

Our baptismal anointing is to facilitate the world’s renewal of itself not only because the past is unpleasant and needs to be renewed but by nature, as has been designed by its Creator, creation unceasingly moves and revolves to bring its constant newness of life.

That’s what Advent is all about; the continuation of creation’s journey towards its own newness in Christ.  We may truly help facilitating its completion.  Amen.
