(Mk 8.27-35)

Taking Jesus aside to keep him away from the cross is Peter’s unconscious welcome to satan’s subtle strategy.  Completely aware of the working of the enemy, even to the point of using people closest to him, Jesus delivers his power of exorcism:  “get behind me satan…”

Even for Jesus, being the Christ is not without the cross.  Not because he needs it but we do.  Having the cross in life without Christ, on the other hand, is really a worst tragedy.  This paves the way for unbearable frustration and depression.

It is the cross with Christ that gushes forth the perfect and complete remedy for all.  May we hear the Spirit gushing forth in Jesus’ words:  “whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”  Amen.
